As women we have to do our best to pass on a legacy that will help our young daughters to face any challenge the society will bring their way as well as to instill in them the right sense of security. In the society we live in today, preteens and teenagers have a lot to deal with.
They have to resist peer pressure, deal with adult expectations and rejections, and all that Hollywood is bombarding them with. With all the negative feed from TV commercials, billboards and TV programs. It's expected that sometimes they are puzzled and discontented. This causes low self-esteem and a lack of self-confidence, which in turn causes depression, low academic performance, unhappiness, and insecurity among their peers.
We as women we need to do what the Bible encourages us to do – that the older women teach the younger women, Titus 2:4. It is important as women to model godly qualities to our daughters. They need to see in us the strength and the tenacity to be who God has called us to be, so that they in turn can model that to their peers and their children.
It is important to help them to know who they are and whose they are. They need to hear from us constantly words of affirmation that will build them up and help them to embrace their individual uniqueness. We need to let them know that they are God’s magnum opus! That means they are one-of-a-kind. There is only one of then in the whole universe, and another of them is surely a counterfeit. Let them know that they are the real deal!
Let them know that their hair color is the right color for their complexion; their eyes are the right color, their lips, noise and ears the right shape and size. Their body is the right shape for their height and body build. They are definitely no mistake. God took His precious time to create them. Psalm 139:13-17 says:
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
