Today is a day set aside here in the United State to give
thanks. However as Christians, everyday is a thanksgiving day. There are
sometimes we may not particularly feel like giving thanks because of the
situations or troubles we are facing that seem to affect our emotions. We tend
to focus more on the negative circumstances and magnify the problem above our
God. The truth is that what we are going through that seems to take our focus
off our creator is not as great as our God and can not be compared to His
greatness. Today let us take the focus off of ourselves and situations and let
us give thanks to God for our brothers and sister in Israel, Egypt, Syria,
Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Japan, Malaysia, Iran, Yemen, etc in the
face of the difficulties, persecution and devastation they are going through,
they are thankful to God for their faith, existence and hope. Our military men
and women are doing exactly the same thing everyday they go out to fight for
the liberty of this and other nations. Let us remember them and be thankful for
what they are doing. Let us be thankful for their families and the families of
those that have lost loved ones for the sacrifice they make and continue to
make.
They, like our brothers and sisters in Asia, the Middle East
and Africa are still experiencing the extraordinary love, protection, provision
and the greatness of our God. Because of this, they are giving thanks everyday.
Knowing that each new day gives them the opportunity to thank God, but most of
all to share their faith and live out their faith in God.
Like the selfless, nameless and sometimes faceless brothers
and sister in these nations and our men and women in service, let us live the word
of God in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 that states “in everything give thanks; for this
is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” and let us allow it to be a reality in
our lives.
